Geographer Álvaro Domingues | Workshop: “EXTERNAL SIGNS OF GENTRIFICATION”

On June 1, the Rectory of the University of Porto hosts a workshop with the geographer and professor Álvaro Domingues. From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (with lunch break), at the Common House – Rectory UP.

Key Points | Concept of gentrification – historical perspective and different signs of the process of gentrification in the city of Porto.

Objectives | The workshop has as a starting point the sharing of information about gentrification in the city of Porto, followed by a moment of fieldwork conducted by the participants, culminating in a presentation and discussion of the work developed.

Recipients | Photographers, architects, geographers and town planners who have some relation with photography; students from these areas.

Álvaro Domingues is a geographer and professor/researcher at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto. His research focuses on Urban Geography and Landscape, collaborating with institutions such as Porto 2001, European Capital of Culture (1999-2000), Serralves Foundation, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Manuel dos Santos Foundation and several Portuguese and foreign universities. In addition to his academic work, he develops activity in the field of photography, essay, and performance. Participated in the X Biennial of Architecture of São Paulo, 2013, at the 14th Venice Biennial of 2014, “The Inquiries [to Photography and Territory], Landscape and Population”, 2016. His publications include Vida no Campo, 2012, Rua da Estrada, 2010, Urban Policies II, 2011, Transgenic Landscapes, 2012.
