Google reveals that all its new products are made from recycled materials

In 2019, Google committed to include more recycled materials in its products. The goal set for 2022 was reached earlier and the Mountain View giant announced that all equipment in the Pixel and Nest lines now contains recycled materials.

In a post on its official blog, Google explains that the back cover of the new Pixel 5, presented in early October, is made entirely of recycled aluminum.

According to David Bourne, architect of the company’s sustainability systems area, the Pixel 5 is the first smartphone of the brand to incorporate this type of recycled material.

The structure of the new Nest Audio smart speakers is made up of 70% recycled plastic. Like the Nest Mini presented in 2019, the equipment is covered by a layer of fabric made in a sustainable way. The latest Nest thermostat also has a structure made of 75% recycled plastic.

The official indicates that Google has updated its initial objective and is now committed to using recycled or renewable materials in at least 50% of all its products that are made from plastic by 2025. The company also proposes to pack its products in 100% plastic free and fully recyclable packaging.
