The Grace Hopper project describes Google‘s fourth private submarine cable. This time, the goal is to connect the USA to Europe, with points in Spain and the United Kingdom.
The Grace Hopper is Google’s fourth private cable and crosses the Atlantic Ocean, connecting the USA to Europe, with entries in Spain and the United Kingdom. Bikash Koley, vice president of Google‘s global network, explains that 98% of international internet traffic is conducted via cable submarines. A large network of cables crossing the oceans makes it possible to share, search, send, and receive information at the speed of light.
In addition to the projects that participate in the set with other organizations, Google detects three other private projects in this field: Curie, the US league in South America; Equiano, between Europe and Africa; and Dunant, between the USA and France.
Grace Hopper is due to start ‘functions’ in 2022 and will be built by SubCom, the same company that prepares Dunant and Curie.
Google wants to build a cloud region in Madrid, a venture in which Grace Hopper will play a major role.
