Gulbenkian gives one million to reward fight against climate change

This year, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation will award a Prize for Humanity in the amount of one million euros, to distinguish people or institutions that fight climate change.

The award, whose nominations run until March 24, will be awarded on July 20, the Foundation announced today in a statement.

Nominations are accepted regarding contributions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to increase resilience to the impacts of climate change and to raise public or private funds to decarbonize the economy.

The Foundation’s president, Isabel Mota, considered that the award marks the institution’s commitment to “the urgency of climate action”.

The selection of nominees will be made by an external jury divided into a Grand Jury chaired by former President of the Republic Jorge Sampaio and by a Committee of Experts chaired by scientist Miguel Bastos Araújo.

The final decision will be made by the Foundation, which will choose from a list of nominees, whose applications can be submitted with a form on the Internet page
