Procession of the Hallelujah of São Brás de Alportel is one of the nominees for the “7 Wonders of Popular Culture”

Due to social isolation, the organizing committee of the “7 Wonders of Popular Culture” announced the nomination in digital format.

The first stage in the course of this contest should’ve taken place in the full 2020 edition of the Festa das Tochas Floridas, when the Procession of Aleluia would be followed by a lively Cultural Afternoon gathering thousands of people in the Churchyard of the Igreja Matriz de São Brás de Alportel.

The Associação Cultural Sambrasense, with the support of the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, presented the candidacy for the contest that aims to determine which are the 7 most significant Wonders of Popular Culture in Portugal, an initiative that follows a set of other 7 Wonders contests that, since 2007, intend to disseminate and communicate the positive values ​​of a strong National Identity.

The secular relationship of this paschal celebration with the São Brasense community, in a mixture of faith and tradition that cannot be fully explained, but only felt, based on the unique characteristics of a procession where the walkers give way to flowers, raised to the heavens, in beautiful torches, on a path designed by magnificent rugs woven with country flowers, culminating in an echo that rises very high “He has risen. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah”.

The procession of Hallelujah with ancestral roots is historically and sentimentally linked to the São Brasense community, it is the heart of the Festa das Tochas Floridas, which attracts thousands of visitors to the municipality year after year, where they still have the opportunity to have a unique and genuine experience. cultural and gastronomic level.

This initiative seeks to be an unequivocal statement of the value and authenticity of the most diverse Portuguese cultural events that are honored and made known throughout the competition.
