Hotels and accommodation units in the Algarve accounted for 3.5%

Hotels and other accommodation units in the Algarve earned a 3.5% increase in October compared to the same period of 2017, despite a 1% drop in the occupation rate, the largest hotel association in the region said today.

“The volume of sales increased by 3.5% [in October] compared to the same period” of 2017, reported the Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of Algarve (AHETA) in the summary of the monthly evolution of the activity of the sector.

The increase in the volume of business did not accompany the fall in the average occupancy rate, which fell by 1% in October, compared to the same month of 2017, standing at 71.2%, indicating the provisional monthly data collected by its business association studies office.

“The decline was mainly due to the British (-6.8%), the Dutch (-13.4%) and the Irish (6.5%). The national market was the one with the highest increase (+14, 5%), attenuating the verified decrease, “he told AHETA.

The decline registered in October contributed to the 1.5% drop that has been occurring since the beginning of the year in the average occupancy rate per room in the Algarve hotel units, but it has not affected in the same way the turnover, since January ” an increase of 3.1%, “the association said.
