Continuing the municipal strategy to support the senior population São Brás de Alportel City Council promotes another edition of the Senior Walks, a free participation initiative, aimed at seniors of the county aged 60 or over.
In 2019 the destination of choice was Alcácer do Sal, the second-largest municipality of Portugal, rich in archaeological historical heritage and a natural beauty inspired by the river Sado.
Running during the month of August, the Senior Walks aim to guarantee more than 700 seniors from São Paulo a different day of conviviality and combat against loneliness, while valuing and making known the potentialities of the national territory. The course set for this edition includes, in the morning, a visit to the Church of Santa Maria do Castelo, the Archaeological Crypt, a labyrinthine underground path where testimonies of human occupation from the seventh century BC to the nineteenth century intersect and a passage by the Alcácer do Sal Castle.
In the afternoon you will visit the village of Santa Susana, considered one of the 7 wonders of Portugal, and inserted in the European network Genuineland. A typical Alentejo village, with rural and traditional architecture, with emphasis on the church in the center of the village and the village theater. The tour ends at Herdade da Barrosinha, where you can learn more about the winemaking process and enjoy the nectar of the gods.
Senior Tours is an annual initiative that promotes active aging and quality of life, organized by the São Brás de Alportel City Council.
