Insatiable eagle imposes historic thrashing
Benfica thrashed the Nacional, 10-0, in the game to count for the 21st round of I Liga. With this result, the incarnates occupy second place with 50 points, less one than the Porto.
Historic thrashing! Benfica thrashed Nacional on Sunday 10-0 in a match against the 21st round of the national championship and shortened the gap to just one point for leaders FC Porto.
The goals started early. Too early. Even before the clock ticked off the first minute of play, Benfica fans celebrated Grimaldo’s goal with Seferovic on the assist.
Nacional could not react to the disadvantage. Incidentally, the team led by Costinha was off and on. As if he had not left the resort. Restricting himself to watching the ‘strangulation’ the eagle had just begun.
The incarnates took advantage and, aiming to win to step on the heels of the dragon, the goals continued. Felix served Seferovic to the 2-0 (22 ‘) and André Almeida watched the Swiss bis (27’).
Benfica was very comfortable in the match, especially because they did not feel threatened by their opponents. However, let it be known who thought the marker was around here. If in the first part Nacional conceded three goals, in the second half … suffered seven.
Goals, goals and more goals … A goal festival
It started with a triumphant header from João Félix in the 50th minute, after a free kick by Pizzi. Two minutes later, Pizzi converted a penalty and at 56 ‘Ferro headed for 6-0. Already within the last half hour (64 ‘), Rúben Dias signed the 7-0.
If Nacional barely had a presence on the pitch at the Estádio da Luz, the formation led by Costinha seemed like a ‘ghost’. The players were lost-headed, unable even to build a play.
In the final stretch, there was still time for three more goals. Jonas took a free-kick to make it 8-0 (85 ‘) and three minutes later Rafa Silva signed the 9-0. At the last minute, Jonas still had time to score and seal a historic 10-0, a route never before signed by the incarnates, for the national championship.
With this result, Benfica has 50 points in second place, one point less than Porto, who is in the lead of the competition.
Moment of the game: Grimaldo opened the action in the first minute, and left the National without the capacity of response and without the capacity to try to catch in the game.
