Seven creators participate this year in the International Festival of Contemporary Dance (FIDANC), which takes place in Évora, from today until November 16, with shows, performances, dance videos and educational activities.
“Consecrated and emerging creators debut their latest creations in the region and develop close contact with the public through a set of parallel activities,” says the ECDC.
This way, different audiences will be able to have “a more participative contact with the creators”, stresses the organization, explaining that FIDANC also stimulates “the dialogue with the different languages of contemporary dance”.
The highlight of this edition’s poster is the premiere in Portugal of Dinis Machado’s “Normcore” show, a co-production of the Swedish-based Swedish company Barco and CDCE, with support from the Government of Sweden and the Arts Council England.
The show, which opens today at the opening of FIDANC at 9.30 pm, is presented on Saturday in Lisbon at Galeria Zé dos Bois (ZDB), and then heads to England, where it will be between 12 and 16 next month. , and Sweden in January 2020, the head of the ECDC indicated.
‘Documentário’, a choreographic work by Joclecito Azevedo, performed by five dancers, is proposed for Friday night, while the following night, it is the turn of the Évora Contemporary Dance Company to show “at home” the his choreography “Tristan e Isolde” by Nélia Pinheiro.
Amélia Bentes, with ‘Mnésimo’ (day 15), and Rafael Alvarez, with ‘In the Break of a Wave’ (from 16), are the other participating choreographers.
The festival’s program of parallel activities, with decentralized initiatives around the city, includes a video dance show by Portuguese and foreign creators at the Almeirim District 1st Cycle Elementary School (November 5th and 14th), workshops , conversations with creators and formative and educational actions.
