There are thousands of pilgrims waiting in the Sanctuary of Fatima for the May international pilgrimage that begins today and will be presided over by the Philippine Cardinal, Luis Antonio Taglee, president of Caritas International.
It is already 102 years since this celebration, after the apparitions of the Cova da Iria and two years after the visit of Pope Francis, beginning today and ending on the second under the theme “Give thanks for pilgrimage in the Church“.
The choice of Luis Antonio Tagle, of the only Asian country in which Catholics are the majority, to preside at the celebration is a sign that the Sanctuary of Fatima is attentive to Asia.
There were 176 groups from 36 countries until Saturday, in 2018 they visited Sanctuary, 456 Asian groups, 125 South Koreans, 93 Filipinos, 48 Indonesians and 36 Vietnamese.
Starting at 6:30 pm in the Sanctuary, the ceremonies in the Chapel of the Apparitions begin at 9:30 p.m., the rosary will be recited, then the procession of the candles will end with the mass. Monday, there will be mass, the blessing of the sick, ending the ceremonies in the Shrine of Fatima with the farewell procession.
