Iran, coached by Portugal’s Carlos Queiroz, debuted today in the Asian Football Cup with a 5-0 win over Yemen in the first Group D game in Abu Dhabi.

In the United Arab Emirates, Mehdi Taremi was in the spotlight with two goals at 12 and 25 minutes, and an assist for Azmoun’s goal in the 53rd minute, with Al Sowadi’s (23) and the Ghoddos attempt (78).

The result achieved at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, the first meeting in Yemen’s history, allowed the Iranians to take the top spot with the other two teams from the group, Iraq and Vietnam, which took place on Tuesday.

A goal by Hwang Eui-Jo allowed Paulo Bento’s South Korea to beat the Philippines and climb to the top of Group C, alongside China, who beat Kyrgyzstan 2-1.
