Iran, from Queiroz, beat Vietnam and qualify for eighth Asian Cup

Iran, coached by Portugal’s Carlos Queiroz, today qualified for the knockout stages of the Asian Football Cup, beating Vietnam 2-0 in the second round of Group D.

At the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the Iranian side secured their second triumph with Sardar Azmoun’s two goals at 38 and 69 minutes.

Goalkeeper Amir Abedzadeh of Marítimo has returned to be an unused substitute for Carlos Queiroz’s side, who have six points, three more than Iraq, who play for Yemen. Vietnam and Yemen have not yet scored.

On the third and final day of Group D on Wednesday, Iran faces Iraq.
