Isabel Ling’s ‘Lingua Franca’ wins best film at Queer Lisboa

In ‘Lingua Franca’, the protagonist Olivia is an undocumented Filipino ‘trans’ woman who works as a caregiver for Olga, an elderly Russian woman, in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn.

The best documentary was for ‘Toutes les Vies de Kojin’, directed by Diako Yazdani, while the Brazilian short film ‘Quebramar’, by Cris Lyra, won in its category.

The ‘shorts’ jury, made up of José Magro, Ricardo Barbosa and Rita Natálio, also gave a special mention to ‘Aline‘, by Simon Guélat.

The same jury distinguished the short film ‘Why do I Feel Like a Boy?’, By Katerina Turecková, as the best film of a European school.

In the Queer Art competition, the jury awarded the Argentine ‘Santos’, by Alejo Fraile, having given a special mention to ‘Hiding in the Lights’, by Katrina Daschner.
