João Pereira wins seventh place in Montreal triathlon

João Pereira was the best Portuguese in the Montreal stage of the triathlon World Championship by seventh, while João Silva was in 16th place in the men’s competition.

In a stage marked by the difficult course in cycling and with the wet floor, the two Portuguese athletes took advantage of this more technical segment to recover positions in relation to the exit of the swimming. Afterwards, they maintained an ascending trajectory in the final race, with João Pereira recording the time of 1.49.25 hours and João Silva to do in 1.50.05.

The Canadian competition, the seventh of the calendar, ended with the triumph of Spanish Mario Mola, 28, at 1.47.46 hours, thus winning his fourth stage of the season (third consecutive) and reinforced the aspirations to reach a third world title

Mola overcame the competition of Norwegian runner-up Kristian Blummenfelt (1.48.02) and Australian Jake Birtwhistle, third, in an absolute repeat of the previous stage podium in Edmonton.

The triathlon World Championship will now be decided in the final stage in Gold Coast, Australia, between September 12 and 16.
