João Sousa ‘falls’ in the second round of the Winston-Salem tournament

Portuguese tennis player João Sousa failed to qualify for the third round of the Winston-Salem ATP tournament in the United States today, after defeating Dutchman Robin Haase in three sets.

The 43-year-old player from the world hierarchy and fourth seed of the tournament did not live up to his status in the round two match, losing in an hour and 54 minutes 6-4 3-6 6-4.

The number one national will now also compete in the United States for the US Open, fourth and final Grand Slam of the season, which is competing against compatriot João Domingues in the second qualifying round.
