João Sousa qualifies for the second round in St. Petersburg

Portuguese tennis player João Sousa qualified today for the second round of the St. Petersburg tournament in Russia, beating Slovakian Jozef Kovalik

In the second meeting between them, Sousa, 64th in the world, added the second triumph, beating Kovalik, 206th, by 6-2 and 6-3, in an hour and 12 minutes.

Sousa, who came from three consecutive defeats in tournament openings, will face second-seed Russian Karen Kachanov in the next round and was exempt from the first round.

This will be the second meeting between the two players, after, in 2016, Khachanov, ninth in the ranking, beat the Vimaranense in the Chengdu tournament in China.
