Jorge Lima and José Costa in 14th place after three World Championship races

Portuguese sailors Jorge Lima and José Costa finished on the 14th the first day of competition of the 49er World Championship, in which they debuted with a third place.

The Portuguese pair already qualified for the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games concluded their first race in third, followed by 15th and seventh places, results that put the duo in 14th place, with 25 points.

Britons Dylan Fletcher-Scott and Stuart Bithell, who won the first two races, lead the competition, which runs until Saturday in Geelong, Australia, with one point less than Austrians Benjamin Bildstein and David Hussl.

New Zealanders Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, five times world champions, Olympic champions in 2016 and silver medals in 2012, continue in third place with seven points.

Jorge Lima and José Costa secured a spot in the 49er competition in Tokyo2020, with the classification for the medal race at the 2018 Olympic Sailing World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark.
