Jorge Sampaio receives humanitarian award

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Republic, congratulated the former president, Jorge Sampaio was awarded the McCall-Pierpaoli Humanitarian Award, awarded through the Global Platform for Support to Syrian Students, recognizing his contribution to the defence of human rights and refugees.

In a note published on the website of the Presidency of the Republic reads “The award honours and recognizes the path of personalities who stand out for dedication to the public cause and promotion of humanitarian work.”

Jorge Sampaio’s role in promoting the international image of Portugal, “as a country committed to safeguarding citizens’ rights, during the presidential mandates it held (1996-2006)” is also highlighted.
