Jorge Viegas elected president of the International Motorcycle Federation

Jorge Viegas was elected president of the International Motorcycling Federation, with 79 votes in 101 possible, in the General Assembly of that entity, which takes place in the Principality of Andorra.

Jorge Viegas, 61, is the first Portuguese to take over the presidency of the world’s top motorcycle body, made unprecedented among the main international federations.

Viegas was the only candidate after the resignation of Austria’s Wolfgang Srb on health grounds, thus succeeding Venezuelan Vito Ippolito, who chaired the FIM for three terms.

Jorge Viegas is a manager and businessman, having been founder and president of the National Federation of Motorcycling, meanwhile reconverted in Motorcycling Federation of Portugal.
