Serbian forward prepares to return to Portugal.
Luka Jovic is one of the biggest figures in Eintracht Frankfurt. On Thursday, the Germans visit the Estádio da Luz to face Benfica in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Europa League. A game that will be “special” for the Serbian striker who is still part of the Eagles’ cadres.
“I was very happy [because of the draw], not because I want some kind of revenge, but because I’m happy to go back to Lisbon and face my old teammates in Luz. It’s going to be a very special game,” Jovic said in declarations to the official Eintracht Frankfurt channels, continuing.
“I was only 18 when I moved to Benfica, it was very difficult at the beginning, but I’m not sorry because I was part of a great club like Benfica, it was a very important experience for me,” he said before explaining what had failed to impose itself on the main team of the Eagles.
“I was very inexperienced, I made a few mistakes and, above all, I played little. It was more of a mentality problem,” he explained, before enumerating the differences between Benfica and Eintracht Frankfurt.
“Like Benfica, Eintracht is a great club, the big difference is that Benfica plays in a weaker league and tries to win it every year, and every game is a must win,” he shot.
Jovic also reveals that he maintains contact with some former Benfica teammates, in particular with compatriot Ljubomir Fejsa.
“Of course I have a connection with some players,” he said, “with Fejsa there were some provocations in the form of a joke, I can not wait to play against him.”
On the chances that Eintracht Frankfurt can win at the Stadium of Light, the young Serbian striker says he expects a very balanced game.
“Benfica have a well-targeted team, it’s going to be complicated, but with a good performance we can beat it, it’s 50/50,” said Jovic, “when we reach our limit we can beat any team”.
It is recalled that Jovic is loaned by Benfica to the German team. However, Eintracht Frankfurt will exercise the option to buy the Serbian striker, which will be valued at around 8 million euros, before being able to sell it for a higher value.
