The Polish Katarzyna Smolarek, who started studying guitar at age 8 and was born in 1995, is the grand winner of the V Edition of the International Guitar Festival of Amarante.

As in previous years, the winner of the main category, F, will open the VI edition of FIG-Amarante. Portuguese João Robim Rocha won second place while Romanian Ana Iordache came in third. The awards ceremony took place on July 6, the closing day of the Festival which this year was marked by several new features. ON – Orquestra do Norte joined the Amarante International Guitar Festival for the first time and made the inaugural concert at the Church of S. Gonçalo, June 22, with more than three hundred people performed at the show. In addition to the participation of ON, it is also recorded the inclusion of the Festival in the cultural agenda of the Municipality of Amarante.
Also for the first time, a partnership was held with several European Festivals, namely with the winners of the Veria Festival in Greece, the Pittaluga Festival in Italy and the Klagenfurt Festival in Austria. The winners of each of these festivals touched and charmed in Amarante.
The Guitar Competition began on June 29, with four categories: A, B, C and D for young guitarists aged 6 to 16. On July 4, 5 and 6, the categories principal, E, and F for guitarists aged from 17 years and with no age limit.
From June 22 to July 6, the city of Amarante hosted the V
Festival / International Guitar Competition. For the first time, this event had a shared organization between the CCA – Maria Amélia Laranjeira Cultural Center and the Amarante City Hall. He also counted on the support of Antena 2, DaCapo Magazine and Porto Guitarra.
