The 12th Edition of the Kriol Jazz Festival, which takes place on the 11th, 16th, 17th and 18th of April, will honor the morna, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This event will count with the participation of some well-known names such as the Brazilian musician Djavan, Dee Dee Bridgewater (United States of America), Asa (Nigeria), Roosevelt Collier (United States of America), Lucibela (Cape Verde) and Grèn Sémé ( Meeting).
The festival poster was presented this Tuesday in Praia. According to the councilor of Culture of the Municipality of Praia, António Lopes da Silva, the Kriol Jazz Festival will continue to have good interpreters and composers, both national and international.
This year, the Kriol Zona will be in the Achada Grande Frente neighborhood, on April 11th, and will have performances by Young Problema, a group that won the contest to participate in this event. Kriol Zona also counts with the participation of CaboCubajazz (Cuba, Cape Verde, Germany, Venezuela and Spain), Ferro Gaita (Cape Verde) and Metis Sesel (Seychelles).
Regarding the tribute to morna, this is justified because, in fact, our morna is a fusion that is in the spirit that we want for the Kriol Jazz Festival.
José da Silva, from Harmonia, indicates that this moment will be provided in the voice of singer Lucibela, who will take to the stage of Praça Luís de Camões beautiful mornas.
Held by Praia City Council in partnership with Harmonia, this event brings together great artists of various origins on one stage. As in previous years, Kriol Jazz will have two paid days, 17th and 18th of April, and tickets are already on sale.
According to José da Silva, this event is estimated at 29 billion escudos. On Thursday, 16, we will have the opening of the event with Les Tambours de Brazza (Congo), in Praça Luís de Camões. On the 17th, the Brazilian musician Djavan, the project “Jazz é ka um Ilha” from Portugal, the singer and composer Asa from Nigeria and the project Cabocubajazz (Cuba, Cape Verde, Germany, Venezuela and Spain).
Lucibela (Cape Verde), Roosevelt Collier (United States of America), Dee Dee Bridgewater (United States of America) and Grèn Sémé (Reunion), are the names that will be on stage at Praça Luís de Camões, on the 18th.
This year, for the first time, Kriol Jazz will take place on the island of Sal, on the 17th and 18th of April in Santa Maria.
