Lisbon hosts the first big exhibition of Banksy in Portugal
‘Genius or Vandal?’ [Genio ou vandalo?, in Portuguese]. This is the name of the exhibition of Banksy that will be in the Cordoaria Nacional, in Lisbon.
Banksy’s exhibition ‘Genius or Vandal?’ will be in the Cordoaria Nacional, in Lisbon, from June 14 until October 27.
The announcement was made by Everything is New, and tickets will go on sale this Saturday, April 20, on the promoter’s website.
“The exhibition conceives an immersion into the mysterious universe created by Banksy and proposes an unprecedented journey through more than 70 original works provided by several international private collectors,” explains Everything is New.
In the National, Cordoaria will be patents different thematic areas and the more than 70 creations include original works, sculptures, installations, videos and photographs.
“An impressive audiovisual installation specially created for this exhibition will welcome visitors, revealing clues about the mysterious artist, highlighting his most important pieces and framing his unusual career, not without controversy,” describes Everything is New.
Among the most recognized works of the exhibition is the original serigraphy of the series ‘Girl with a Balloon’, similar to the one recently destroyed by the artist himself in an action unheard of at Sotheby’s, the London auction.
‘Genius or Vandal?’ has been on display in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Madrid, where he was visited by more than 600 thousand people.
This sample, like all those that were previously dedicated to Banksy, is not authorized by the artist, who seeks to defend his anonymity and his independence from the system.
