Lisbon is the first capital in the world with guide created from Facebook

There are 25 communities that share ideas and information about the Portuguese capital through Facebook, which gave rise to a guide that presents Lisbon in the ‘traditional’ and ‘trendy’ slope, presented today.

“This guide is a result of contributions from various communities on Facebook, the difference between this guide and any other is that it is done by people, is simple and complements those that already exist,” told Facebook’s director of communication for Iberian Peninsula, Lola Banos.

According to the official, the guide presented this morning at the Lisbon Story Center, in Terreiro do Paço, reflects the “pride that people have in the city” and will serve tourists and Portuguese.

“It will be possible to discover Lisbon through the eyes of the people of Lisbon, I think it will be very important, not only for the people who live here but also for the tourists. It will be possible to discover new areas where to run, where to bike, about products, for example, “he said.

The guide will be available for free at the Lisbon Story Center until Sunday at a photo exhibition opening today, which features community portraits on Facebook about Lisbon.

The photos of the guide were taken by photographer Manuel Gomes da Costa and the design of the publication was also given to a Lisbon photographer, Hugo Silva.

In a guide where the yellow colour dominates, Facebook’s responsible for the Iberian Peninsula justified the choice with the “light” of the city.

“Praça do Comércio is yellow, the buses are yellow, the electric ones are yellow and the light of the city is yellow,” he said.

According to Lola Banos, the choice of Lisbon for the first capital in the world with the edition of a guide constructed from the contributions of communities that function in the social network was “obvious” since, she said, Lisbon is a city with a “cultural heritage very rich”.

“We want to celebrate the communities on Facebook and those that exist in Lisbon are really interesting, share common interests, culture and love for the city, so we chose Lisbon,” he said.

Lisbon joins Seville, the first city to provide residents and visitors with a guide that comes from established communities on Facebook.

The guide will also be available online and in a PDF version, for browsing and downloading from the Internet.
