The changes in vehicle circulation in the city of Lisbon, presented by Fernando Medina, result from the commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by 60% by 2030, and carbon neutrality by 2050.
The area chosen to launch this pollution reduction measure, along the Avenida Baixa-Chiado axis, is the area of the city with the greatest coverage of public transport.
With the changes, starting in June, 40,000 cars will enter the zone, equivalent to less than 60,000 tons of CO2 per year.
Implementation phases Zone
- In February, the Reduced Emissions Zone plan will be presented to the parish councils, associations of residents and traders, and the municipal assembly, and the following month it will be sent for public consultation.
- In May, the authorized vehicles will be registered, and in June and July the first phase will start, which will have an information and awareness-raising character.
- In August, access will be fully controlled.
