The Holy House of Mercy of Paris receives today the gold medal of merit of the Secretary of State of the Portuguese Communities, for the work “of humanitarian aspect that has been developing in France”.
The ceremony will take place during a gala dinner that marks the 20th anniversary of this organization of Portuguese emigrants and Portuguese descendants in Paris. The medal will be delivered by José Luís Carneiro, Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities, who will be present at this event.
“The gold medal of merit of the Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities was attributed to the humanitarian work that the Holy House of Mercy of Paris has been developing in France,” told José Luís Carneiro.
In 2018, three of the main initiatives of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Paris were supported by the Government: social permanences that aim at various social support initiatives, the Solidarity Race and the Christmas Campaign for Portuguese detainees and Portuguese descendants in correctional establishments in France.
“It is a work of great merit that has sensitized me and today I made a point of responding to the invitation to give them this recognition,” said the Secretary of State, reiterating that this is an institution that supports “hundreds of people” in the Paris region.
The Secretary of State also reminded that applications for financial support for the projects of the diaspora-related associations for the next year are open until December 31, 2018.
“All the leaders of the associations of the Portuguese diaspora can present their applications in consular posts and, for this purpose, should read the information available on the online portal of the Portuguese communities,” said José Luís Carneiro.
In 2018, this program supported 82 applications from around the world, with a value of more than 300 thousand euros.
José Luís Carneiro’s visit to Paris will also include a visit tomorrow to the exhibition “Portugal in the Great War” at the Consulate General of Portugal in Paris. The visit will be accompanied by students from the Liceu Saint-Germain en Laye.
