Monsaraz is 185 km from Lisbon, about 400 km from Porto (north of the country) and 53 km from Évora. The village is small and the best way to get to know it is on foot. Therefore, hunting down is essential. The best time to travel in the interior of the Alentejo is from March to May, or during the harvest period from September to the end of October.
Monsaraz rests next to the Guadiana perched on a hill that rises in the Alentejo plain. It was conquered to the Moors in 1167 by Geraldo without fear and was delivered to the Templars by D.Sancho II for their defense and settlement.
