More than 100 musicians will participate in the Viseu Jazz Festival

More than 100 musicians will participate in the Viseu Jazz Festival in July, which promises great diversity of styles, with the aim of summoning the community to Aquilino Ribeiro Park and other points of the city.

Organized by Gira Sol Azul, the festival ‘What jazz is this?’ will run from July 24 to 28, and wants to “contaminate” people around the city.

The festival will feature five international concerts, eleven national and eight that take place off stage.

At the so-called Aquilino Ribeiro Park grass, it will be possible to watch the concert of the Collective Gira Sol Azul, accompanied by drummer Roger Biwandu and singer R! X.

According to Joaquim Rodrigues, of the organization, similar to other years, this concert arises from a challenge launched “to musicians of great international renown” to play with a collective of musicians of the city.

On July 24th, the opening concert will take place at the Grão Vasco Museum, with the French pianist Jean-Michel Pilc and the Galician musician Xose Miguélez.

During the festival, there will also be concerts of Tricycle Vivo, Centauri, Cactus Truck and Terra Livre, among others.

It is within this ambit that we will carry out the rubrics Jazz in the Street, Jazz in the Varandas and Doctor Jazz. The latter will bring musicians dressed as doctors to the Department of Psychiatry and the Pediatric Service of the Hospital de Viseu.

Also, Radio Rossio will continue to broadcast from a ‘roulotte’ installed in the Aquilino Ribeiro Park, with 36 hours of broadcast and 19 broadcasters.

“Some are even professional radio broadcasters, some musicians with some radio experience, others are just curious about music”, who will have several shows on Radio Rossio, Ana Bento said.
