More than 30 artists at the Elvas Museum of Contemporary Art exhibition

The exhibition entitled ‘2012 – 2020, Works of the António Cachola Collection’, with works by more than 30 Portuguese artists, will be inaugurated on Saturday at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Elvas (MACE), revealed the town hall.

The opening of the show, which will showcase some of the acquisitions of the António Cachola Collection between 2012 and 2020, is scheduled for 5 pm, as part of the 361-year commemorations of the Battle of the Elvas Lines, which are taking place in the Raiana city of the district of. Portalegre.

According to the municipality, the exhibition, which includes sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographs, installations and videos, will be visible to the public in the museum’s exhibition galleries, as well as in other cultural spaces of historical and patrimonial value of the city, such as the Paiol. Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the Municipal Library Dr. Elsa Grilo and the Forte da Graça.

In the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Storeroom will be exhibited a work by João Pedro Vale and Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, while in the library will be a work of Julião Sarmento. At Forte da Graça will be a play by Priscila Fernandes.

The 30 artists are divided into 15 men, 15 women and two groups, with names such as Ana Jotta, Fernanda Fragateira, Joana Vasconcelos, Jonathan Saldanha, Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela, among others.

The exhibition can be visited until January 3, 2021.

Since its foundation on July 6, 2007, the Elvas Museum has been hosting the António Cachola Collection, dedicated exclusively to Portuguese visual art production.

Considered one of the most important Portuguese private collections and constantly updated, the António Cachola Collection has more than 650 works, giving special focus to the Portuguese artists who began producing in the 1980s and following the contemporary national creations.

With this new exhibition, according to the municipality, MACE intends to value the material and immaterial goods of the local culture, allowing its experience through the expository experience.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Elvas also intends, with the exhibition, to show the growth of this collection that is a stimulus for the artistic creation of Portuguese artists.

The MACE, an institution with municipal authority, promotes, nationally and internationally, contemporary Portuguese art, and is, since 2015, inserted in the Portuguese Museum Network.
