Museu do Fado takes the music to the street

A journey through Lisbon's historic neighborhoods, guided by the city's song. Fique em Casa... de Fados, this Saturday, on RTP 1, at 14h15.

For a fado singer, everything starts at Casa de Fados, a living space for learning, transmitting and culturally enjoying Fado and Portuguese Guitar. It is there that it receives the teachings of the oldest. It is there that he learns to know the poetic repertoires, the melodies and the legacy of the great pillars of the fadista tradition.

It is there that he grows, as an artist, to start integrating, in his own name, a collective heritage that has an approximate history of two centuries and is assumed, even today, in the 21st century, as a living and universal heritage.

In this musical documentary, we bring the magic of fado houses to the street. At the door of these emblematic cultural spaces in Lisbon, 12 fadistas representing these same fado houses bring the Intangible Heritage of Humanity to all Portuguese.

The tour starts at Mesa de Frades and continues with Adega Machado, A Parrerinha de Alfama, A Severa, Café Luso, Casa de Linhares, Clube de Fado, Maria da Mouraria, O Beech, Páteo de Alfama and Senhor Vinho, ending at the Museum do Fado.
