‘Namorico do André’ is the first single from Fado Bicha

The love story between the fisherman Chico and André Pescador left the market in Ribeira, and became the first single of Fado Bicha, with honors of the music video, available on digital platforms, an ode to homosexual love.

Fado, an adaptation of the well-known “Namorico da Rita”, immortalized in the voice of Amália Rodrigues, was the first song to be adopted by Lila Fadista, even before the arrival of João Caçador and the creation of the duo.

Rita passed to Andre, the forbidden romance became the passion between two men, and André’s “Namorico” became the first fado to speak openly of a homosexual love that, as John, the Hunter recalled, “always existed, but has never been portrayed. ”

“No poet, no fadista, no musician, no lyricist until today, had the daring, or the possibility, to be able to create and to be able to speak about it openly and represent our identities that invariably are always put as not recommended”, pointed out the musician and composer.

The single and music video will be publicly announced on Friday, March 19th, on all digital platforms, from Spotify or iTunes to youtube, with another single expected to be released next May.

The musical process counts on the collaboration of the producer Twins, musical director of the musician Dengaz and that works with artists like Plutónio or Diogo Piçarra, and thanks to which the Fado Bicha is passing “to another level, at least musical”.

“We needed this phase of Fado Bicha. After giving a lot of concerts, only voice and guitar, now we move to a platform, with a more structured musical enrichment and a bigger production,” said João Caçador.

Lila Fadista said that, on an artistic level, this was an experience that the two longed to have, to be in the studio, to record, to work with a producer and, after the recorded music, to record a music video.

In addition, despite the more than one hundred concerts given in less than two years of activity, they missed the chance to reach other audiences, especially those who do not live in the places where they have performed, leading not only message she carries.

João Caçador has no doubt that the first great expectation will be fulfilled, which is to bring to a music video the romance between two men, expressed, not only in its most physical part but above all through affections.

“Our sexual orientation is our greatest form of activism and politics that we can have, without constraints, and I think people will like it even if they feel finally represented in something that speaks about them”, stressed.

Lila Fadista has a full notion that many people will criticize, they will say that this is not fado, that they will have “very negative reactions”.

“It is obvious that if we leave the den … people will fall on us and think it is inappropriate, which is to attract attention, but if that is the price to pay for being outside and saying that we exist, we smile and we love, so we pay, “he said.

In the music video, made by Tiago Leão, Chico and André are represented by a Brazilian boy and another Angolan, which, Lila emphasized, “turns out to be an evocation of fado origins in Brazilian music and Angola music.”

Then there is a mother and father who are against their love, demonstrated in “very sensual scenes of love on the palatial quay of Carrasqueira, there at the foot of Alcácer do Sal.”

João Caçador emphasized that they simply represent themselves and nobody else, but admits that they also have the notion that they end up being the “symbol of something greater” through the music that composes and that, thanks to this, bring “to the light “poorly represented identities.

“It would be a great pleasure to have people from the fado community, fado singers that I admire, not necessarily support the music we play, but the goal, our mission and what we bring,” Lila Fadista confided, adding that, this has not happened yet.

Despite the “constraints of various kinds”, especially financial constraints, the duo has clear objectives. They have recorded the second theme, next year they release the album, and, at the end of May, they appear “the first great Fado Bicha concerts”, the first on the 30th, at the MusicBox in Lisbon, then at 31st, in Évora and, in June, in Porto.

Then they intend to close a circle, “of very direct subversion”, stop, have time to compose of the root, music, and letter, “more conceptual things, perhaps”, and elevate the Fado Bicha to another level.
