New book by Filipe Melo and Juan Cavia

Edited internationally by IDW / Top Shelf

Ballad for Sophie, the next book by Filipe Melo and Juan Cavia, will have an international edition in 2021 by the North American company IDW Publishing, with the seal of the prestigious Top Shelf Productions, home of titles like Blankets, by Craig Thompson; From Hell and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, by Alan Moore; They Called Us Enemy, by George Takei and Essex County, by Jeff Lemire.

Founded in 1997, Top Shelf Productions has achieved a place of undisputed prominence in the editorial world. Holder of a catalogue composed of hundreds of titles that are distinguished by literary and artistic sophistication, she played a very important role in the projection of the Comic Strip beyond the sphere of gender, catapulting the graphic novel into the literary domain. In 2015, it was acquired by IDW Publishing, positioning itself, inside the house, as responsible for launching works with indisputable authorial and independent nature, but with a strong reach among literary critics and the general public.

This is Filipe Melo’s seventh book and also his seventh collaboration with Juan Cavia, continuing the partnership started in 2009 with the launch of the first title of the Dog Mendonça and Pizzaboy trilogy (Tinta-da-China, Dark Horse Comics). Ballad for Sophie continues a path, started in Os Vampiros (Tinta-da-China, 2016) and Comer / Beber (Tinta-da-China, Paquet, 2017), through deeper and more complex narrative landscapes, representing, until now, the more ambitious, intimate and moving adventure of the multi-award-winning duo of authors.

The book will also be published in France, by Editions Paquet and in Poland, by Mucha. In Portugal, it is launched by Tinta-da-China, in early September, at the Lisbon Book Fair, and is already available for pre-sale on the Fnac website.
