New crater discovery on surface of Mars
The image was captured from a height of 255km.
The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured images of a new crater on the surface of Mars, which is located in the Valles Marineris region near the equator line of the planet.
The photograph was captured by the High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) project at an elevation of 255km on April 17, 2019, but the formation of the crater was expected to occur between September 2016 and February 2019.
As for the finding itself, the HiRISE team member responsible for the discovery, Veronica Bray, revealed to Space.com that the crater is between 15 and 16 meters in diameter and it is estimated that the meteor that gave rise to it had about 1.5 meters.
