The city of Aveiro will start with a new festival dedicated to jazz, whose first edition takes place on September 7 and 8, with names and new revelations touching the sunset.
Elisa Rodrigues, João Hasselberg & Pedro Branco, Lokomotiv and Maria João – OGRE (Trio Eléctrico) head the poster of the first edition of Jazz, Sunset and Meia, which will have two stages in the staircase of the Fernando Távora building in Aveiro.
As for the invited artists, according to Afonso Miranda, of the organization, besides these “classics of Portuguese jazz”, the second day of the festival will be dedicated to new talent.
“It’s a musical festival that will bring people closer to jazz and give them the opportunity to enjoy the music at sunset, in a place that, in my view, has the best view of Aveiro, on the canals of the Ria. is very associated with something elitist and we want to do exactly the opposite: to give everyone a jazz in a relaxed and uncompromised way, “he explained.
In addition to the stage performances, the festival promises to liven up the city with “duels in the sun”, a kind of “torn” between jazz performers, spread throughout the main arteries of the city.
“On the same day we will have musicians that participate in the main stage and the secondary stage scattered around the city, before the festival time to create animation,” says that element of the organization.
Long before sunset, early in the afternoon, the “terrace talks” take place in which artists exchange ideas with each other and with the public.
“We will have conversations with very interesting people, like Maria João, Miguel Araújo, Rui Veloso, Luísa Sobral, Vasco Sacramento, José Pina, or José Pedro Leitão,” the organization added.
The motto of Jazz, Sunset and Meia is to party in the late afternoon, where people gather, share conversations, wobble to the sound of music and admire the sunset, with three bars of support where they prepare specific “cocktails” dedicated to jazz.
The festival is a co-production of the Câmara de Aveiro, Teatro Aveirense and ‘Aveiro with Passion’.
