Nicole Eitner starts, next Friday, the 24th, at 6 pm, a “Journey through the Soundtracks of Cinema” at Casino Lisboa. The artist takes the central stage of the Arena Lounge to star in the concert “Music of Movies”, transforming soundtracks known from cinema and television into unique versions interpreted in a personal and intimate way with a voice on the piano. With free entry, this short cycle of performances runs until Sunday, July 26th.
Nicole Eitner usually conquers the public with her remarkable interpretations of compositions, such as “You’re the One that I Want” by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in “Grease”; “Somewhere over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland in “Wizard of Oz”; “Absolute Beginners” by David Bowie in “Absolute Beginners”; “Nature Boy” by Nat King Cole in “Moulin Rouge”; Nancy Sinatra‘s “Bang Bang” in “Kill Bill”; Leonard Cohen‘s “Hallelujah” in “Shrek”; “Abba Medley” in “Mamma Mia” or “Society” by Eddie Vedder in “Into the Wild“.
Daughter of a Portuguese mother and a German father, Nicole Eitner has lived in Portugal for longer than the years she spent studying in Germany. Listening to it we can confuse its sound with the best pop/jazz that is made out there. But no, it is really the best that is done here. Nicole Eitner is one of the most poorly kept secrets of music that is made in our country.
As a singer and songwriter over the years, she deserved international awards as important as the “Midem of Competition” in France (Cannes), in 2011, the “International SongDoor Songwriting Competition” in the United States, in 2009 or the “Web change Hottest Band Award Competition” at the legendary South By Southwest, also in 2009.
The record debut arrived in 2007 with “Vampires” with violinist Viviena Tupikova and double bass player Zeca Neves. In 2009, Nicole Eitner shared the stage with Suzanne Vega, at Olga Cadaval, in Sintra, and participated in the SXSW Festival in Texas, where she won the 1st prize for recording at the iconic Sun Studios of Elvis Presley, in Memphis.
In 2011, he edited the second album, “I’Am You” and made the first part of the tour of Joan As Police Woman in Portugal. He also won the “Midem Off Showcase Competition” (fan vote) and performed in Cannes. In 2012, he won the “International SongDoor Songwriting Competition” (USA), in the ‘Pop Songs’ category, with the song ‘Witness of Your Life’ and was a semi-finalist in the “UK Songwriting Contest”. That year, he signed the first part of Perry Blake’s concert in Lisbon. With musicians Alexandre Frazão on drums and Miguel Menezes on double bass and vocals, he forms ‘Nicole Eitner and The Citizens’.
In 2015, he released his third original album “Fade To Shade”, which was nominated for Best Independent Album 2015 by IMPALA and “Winning Day” was considered one of the songs of the year according to the Portuguese press.
