Although none of the 45 office buildings managed by the real estate consultant CBRE has closed during the state of emergency, since May 4, there has been the gradual return of many employees of the tenant companies. The big increase is foreseen for June 1, which will be guided by a set of measures, which will allow the part of the usual pre-COVID, 13,500 employees to return to normal with maximum safety and comfort.
CBRE’s Property Management area defined a set of Health and Safety rules applied to the office buildings it manages, in line with the indications of the Portuguese Government and the General Directorate of Health (DGS) and the best practices, published on the past 30th of April.
On June 1, a significant increase is expected in the reunion of the teams. To ensure a safe return, CBRE has been putting in place measures that include reinforcing the cleaning of buildings, providing alcohol-based gel dispensers in the various common areas of buildings, placing physical barriers at the reception, where personal protection equipment (mask) is provided whenever necessary, automation of doors and control of entrance of visitors through a member of the dedicated security team.
In order to guarantee better circulation, the evacuation stairs have been unlocked to access other floors – priority in the elevator for people with reduced mobility, pregnant or elderly -, placement of signs indicating the social distance in the sanitary areas and in waiting areas, or with information on rules of social distance and hand hygiene.
The air ventilation of buildings, whenever possible, has also been adjusted to ensure air quality, hand dryers disabled in sanitary areas, and pedal crates are also being made available for the placement of already used personal protective equipment. All buildings have a specific area of confinement in a defined area for each building.
Frederico Mondril, Associate Director of Propety Management at CBRE, says that “in such an extraordinary context, CBRE focuses on the importance of safety, hygiene and health for all, when resuming work after confinement. We want to provide a return that guarantees the essential conditions so that all employees can better face this new normality ”.
Through a specific set of communication pieces, based on a campaign with the motto #Backtogether, CBRE is transmitting, in a clear and with some optimism, the set of practices in force to ensure total convenience and safety in buildings. Practices are communicated through specific signs, strategically placed in their circulation and contact areas, with messages that reinforce the rules of respiratory etiquette, the use of personal protective equipment (use of a mask) and social distance (2 meters). We will also deliver a welcome pack with gel and mask.
