The effects of climate change on agriculture is the theme of this year’s edition of the Ovibeja agricultural fair, which starts today, “full” and “more than a thousand exhibitors” to show “all the Alentejo of this world.”
There was “a lot of demand from exhibitors, more than last year” and 36th Ovibeja will be held “full” until Sunday, at the Fair and Exhibition Park of Beja – Manuel Castro and Brito, according to Rui Garrido, president of the association ACOS – Farmers of the South, the organizer of the fair.
According to ACOS, there are “more than a thousand exhibitors” from various sectors of activity and distributed by several pavilions installed in an area of 10 hectares of the park.
According to Rui Garrido, in this year’s edition, Ovibeja, which “is a kind of Ronaldo do Alentejo that everyone knows at home and abroad”, has the “same scheme of recent years“, taking as its theme “climate change and its effects on agriculture. ”
The theme will be present in seminars, colloquia, workshops, awareness raising actions and the interactive exhibition “Land – Agriculture and Climate Change in Alentejo”.
The novelty of this year is the “ACOS + Natureza e Equilíbrio” space, with pedagogical activities for children and families, but the fair returns to count on the traditional institutional pavilions, with companies and institutions, of the cattle raising, with more than 300 animals, of the birds, for the 24th Mostra de Aves, multiuser and trade and services, the agri-food space and the bars and taverns and restaurants.
To this year’s edition, Campo da Feira is returning to showcase and sell agricultural machinery and services, the Tierra Fertile Pavilion, a showcase for innovation in agriculture and agribusiness, the Azeite Arena, dedicated to the promotion of the Alentejo as “the main producing region “of olive oil in Portugal, and the Pavilion of Cante, Arts and Crafts.
The holding of colloquia on various subjects of the agricultural world is another of Ovibeja’s valences, which, as is customary, should be the destination of a “pilgrimage” of politicians, between rulers and party leaders.
Gastronomy, awarding of the 9th International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Contest – CA Ovibeja Prize, a bullfight, exhibitions, contests, bullfights and sporting events are other offers of the program.
As for the show poster that animates the “ovinoites“, the highlights are the concerts of the singers António Zambujo, today Fernando Daniel, on Thursday, Matias Damásio on Friday, and Rui Veloso, on Saturday.
António Zambujo’s concert is the result of a partnership between ACOS and Câmara de Beja and is included in the 45th-anniversary commemoration of the 25th of April in the city, promoted by the municipality and taking place in the Ovibeja precinct, which has free entrances from 10:00 p.m.
