Pedro Costa’s film “Vitalina Varela” and António Ferreira’s “Pedro e Inês” are part of the Hamburg Film Festival, which starts on Thursday.
According to the program, ‘Vitalina Varela’ will be screened in the ‘Vitrina’ section, dedicated to Iberian and Latin American cinema, while ‘Pedro and Inês’ will be included in the ‘Eurovisuell’ section, composed of the most-watched recent films in Europe.
‘Vitalina Varela’, still unreleased in Portugal, was honored last August with the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival (Switzerland). At this festival, the protagonist, a Cape Verdean woman who names the film, received the awards for best female interpretation and the Boccalino d’Oro Award for best actress.
‘Pedro e Inês’, which was in class in 2018, is a reinterpretation of António Ferreira of the true story of D. Pedro and D. Inês de Castro, with the pair starring Diogo Amaral and Joana de Verona.
In the ‘Vitrina’ section, the highlight is the presence of ‘Rescue’, a film by Mozambican Mickey Fonseca.
The 27th edition of the Hamburg FilmFest will feature 144 films from 56 countries and will end on October 5th.
