Pepetela wins literary prize Correntes d’Escritas 2020

The Angolan writer Pepetela won today the Casino da Póvoa Literary Prize 2020, with the book “His Excellency of the Present Body”, attributed within the scope of the Correntes d’Escritas literary meeting, in Póvoa de Varzim, the organization announced.

The competition jury decided to distinguish the work of this 78-year-old author, born in Benguela, “for the originality of the narrative stratagem”, giving him the prize of 20 thousand euros.

Pepetela thus succeeds the Portuguese author Luís Quintais, who in 2019 won, in the poetry category, the maximum award of Correntes d’Escritas, a meeting of writers of Iberian expression that officially takes place today in Póvoa de Varzim.
