On Tuesday, June 30, at 6:30 pm, the Piaget Institute promotes an online seminar dedicated to the theme “Social Educator: Identity and Profession”. The event anticipates the new degree in Social Education that the institution will teach from the academic year 2020/2021.
In this virtual round table, which includes the presence of several social educators with different professional backgrounds, it is intended to make known the profession of social educator and the work done by them. The event is aimed at all those who are interested in the profession and who wish to learn more about the areas in which these professionals work.
The panel of participants is composed by Ana Camões, a social educator, with a PhD in Educational Sciences with a specialization in Social Pedagogy; Renata Machado and Cindy Vaz, both social educators and masters in Educational Sciences with specialization in Social Pedagogy; Hélia Nunes, socio-professional educator and superior technician in the human resources department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Raquel Levy, socio-professional educator and head of division at the Setúbal City Council.
Access to the event is free, upon registration through the Piaget Institute website.
The creation of a degree in Social Education is directly related to the mission, tradition and formative experience of the Institute, which has been training graduates in the social area for the past 15 years.
“This new degree is another step in the reinforcement of the project of the Higher School of Education of the Piaget Institute of Almada, assuming an essential character in the pursuit of studies for our students in the higher professional technical courses”, says Clementina Nogueira, president of the Polytechnic Institute Jean Piaget do Sul, where the new course will work.
The course will allow students to develop and deepen the theoretical and practical foundations of Social Pedagogy in terms of socio-educational intervention with people, institutions and communities, with a view to promoting well-being and quality of life, and training throughout life.
Social educators are professionals trained from a multiplicity of experiences and references, from social pedagogy, psychology, sociology, gerontology and social entrepreneurship.
