Piaget launches degree in Social Education

The Piaget Institute will open in the academic year 2020/2021 a new degree in Social Education, to teach at its university center in Almada.

The new degree, especially aimed at those who enjoy human relations and intervene in the social field, appears in a context of restructuring the entire area of ​​education at the Institute, in order to keep their courses always up to date. A restructuring that also led to the renewal of the study plan for the Basic Education degree.

The Social Education degree thus appears as a new offer in the social component, in which the Piaget de Almada Institute already presented several training options, such as the Higher Professional Technical Courses in Gerontology, Social Work and Community Development, or even post Graduate in Management of Social Economy Services.

For those responsible for the institution, the new degree will benefit greatly from the tradition and training experience of the Piaget Institute, which has been training thousands of graduates in the social area for the past 15 years.

Future social educators will be professionals trained from a multiplicity of experiences and references, from social pedagogy, psychology, sociology, gerontology and social entrepreneurship.

The role of social educators, it should be noted, has been gaining a growing role in Portuguese society, namely in working with people and communities at risk, excluded or in social vulnerability, aiming at their promotion and integration.

The added value of these professionals is that they are trained to deal with people and populations with life situations, most of the time, complicated, not in an assistance record, but oriented towards positive change and transformation. A work that is done through the use of pedagogical tools and activities, aimed especially at those who like to integrate into multidisciplinary teams.

In terms of job opportunities, the alternatives are also increasingly broadened. Graduates in Social Education can now intervene in educational areas of the central, regional or municipal administration and operate in very diverse socio-educational spaces: hospitals and health centers, day centers, nursing homes, day care centers and kindergartens, playrooms, prison establishments , reception centers and protection commissions, among many others.
