The Municipality of Ponte da Barca developed a project which is named “Fronteira Segura”, ready to implement that aims to support the National Republican Guard in carrying out the surveillance and control mission of the Madalena border post, in Lindoso.
This project, equipped with technological means, consists of the installation of an integrated security system, consisting of video surveillance, intrusion detection and voice intervention system on-site and will be connected to the GNR, thus allowing surveillance and remote control, freeing human resources for other occurrences in the municipality This initiative follows the Government’s decision, at the beginning of March, to close all land borders with Spain, with the exception of nine crossing points, where the Madalena border is not included, in Lindoso, with a ban on pedestrian and road traffic.
In view of the fact that there has already been a violation of the closure of this border, which has contributed to the feeling of insecurity of the population, the Municipality of Ponte da Barca, after reinforcing the concrete barrier, took the initiative to present this proposal for collaboration with the National Republican Guard, which was immediately welcomed.
According to Augusto Marinho, President of the Municipal Chamber of Ponte da Barca: “This measure aims to reinforce the population’s confidence in the measures adopted by the municipality to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the municipality of Ponte da Barca, which until now has a case positive since the beginning of the pandemic ”.
The “Fronteira Segura” project, whose costs are fully borne by the municipality, was developed in partnership with a Private Security company, and is now, in a position to be implemented, awaiting only a final assessment by the GNR and validation by the Commission National Data Protection Act.
