Porto Ageas Coliseum celebrates World Music Day

Porto Ageas Coliseum celebrates World Music Day with clarinet player from the National Orchestra of France

Because it has never been so important to celebrate music, on October 1, the Coliseu Porto Ageas and the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra organize the commented concert “From Mozart to Beethoven”, with the works of two of the greatest composers ever.

This International Music Day show begins with the “Concert for Clarinet”, one of the last works written by Mozart. It follows the “Eroica Symphony”, the third and one of the most celebrated symphonies by Beethoven, who initially dedicated it to Napoleon Bonaparte, as a result of his sympathy for the humanist and democratic ideals of the French Revolution. A historical musical epic, dedicated to the ideals of freedom and equality.

On the clarinet will be one of the most prominent Portuguese clarinetists, Carlos Ferreira. Born in Porto, he held the position of Principal Clarinet at the Orchester National de Lille and also at the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Of the many awards he has already won in his career, he stands out in second place in the prestigious German International Music Competition ARD, in 2019. With an international career on the rise, he is currently a soloist in the Orchester National de France.

Did Beethoven and Mozart ever meet? What connects them musically? And why did Beethoven withdraw the “Eroica” dedication to Napoleon Bonaparte? In an informal, cheerful and relaxed atmosphere, Maestro Osvaldo Ferreira will talk about these and other curiosities, on a night that celebrates the power of music, as well as Carlos Ferreira’s homecoming and the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven.

Tickets cost between €5 and €9 and are on sale at the Coliseu Porto Ageas ticket office, Ticketline and usual places. Music students, under 12 years old and over 65 years old enjoy 20% discount.
