Porto Ageas Coliseum opens exhibition on its history on the day it marks 78 years

214views

“Montra de Histórias” is the title of the exhibition that the historic Porto Concert Hall opens this Thursday, December 19, the day that marks the 78th anniversary.

Divided into six nuclei, the exhibition is the result of a renovation and refurbishment of the shop windows located in the Plateia and Tribuna access corridor, and evokes some of the great names that appeared at the Colosseum in the areas of music, cinema, opera, dance or from the circus.

Starting from architectural drawings, old press clippings, show programs and images, which are joined by historical objects such as furniture from the first dressing rooms, the Book of Honor with the signatures of the artists who worked in the room, cinema projection machines, or the Molière Baton used by Maestro Pedro Freitas Branco to strike the three strokes on the opening night, some of the great stories that this theater keeps on its walls are remembered.

These storefronts have had many uses, including for decades selling products from stores in the immediate vicinity of the Colosseum. One of the windows is a vault with bulletproof glass, because it was the window used by a jewelery shop. They now gain a museum valence that keeps alive the memory of the past, on which the present and the future are founded.

“Montra de Histórias” opens at 6.30 pm this Thursday and admission is free. It can then be seen for free on show days. The exhibition also has a digital support, where the public can, through the QR Code visible in each storefront, learn more about the exhibition centers.

“Montra de Histórias” has the support of Porto City Council and part of the exhibition “The Coliseum and the City: 75 years of history”, opened in November 2017 in the City Hall.
