Portugal in men’s European Table Tennis semi-finals

The men’s team from Portugal wins the second medal in the European Team Championship, which takes place in Nantes, France, beating Austria 3-1 in the quarterfinals.

Portugal has not beaten the Austrian side since the Luxembourg European 2017, and with a categorical triumph, they have secured their place in the semi-finals and will face Sweden.

Portugal started the match losing, with Tiago Apolónia (32nd) losing with Robert Gardos (19th), 3-0, with 13-11, 11-7 and 11-6 partials.

Marcos Freitas (10th) beat Daniel Habesohn (16th) 3-1, with 11-8, 6-11, 11-8 and 11-7, and João Monteiro (67th) against Stefan Fegerl (34th) also won 3-1, with the partials 11-3, 11-1, 8-11 and 11-7.

Tiago Apolónia closed the game, winning 3-0, Daniel Habesohn – the partials of 11-6, 11-4 and 11-3.

Portugal has already won four group medals in five years – gold and silver in Europeans, in Lisbon 2014 and Luxembourg 2017 and two gold and bronze in European Games, Baku 2015 and Minsk 2019.
