Portugal marks the 70th anniversary of the Human Rights Declaration

The Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ) will promote five races next Sunday to mark the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 40th anniversary of Portugal’s accession to the European Convention on Human Rights.

The initiative, entitled ‘Races for human rights’, will be attended by the Minister of Education, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, who explained that the objective is to associate this remarkable date with the practice of physical exercise.

“A series of initiatives have taken place in our schools, in the Ministry of Education, and in citizenship in general, with the aim of celebrating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Through IPDJ we decided to organize five races and walks around the country and I invite everyone to come together to celebrate physical activity, sport, but also the importance of human rights, “said the minister.

In order to set an example, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues guaranteed will be present on Sunday in one of these events, which will be held in the cities of Braga, Coimbra, Odivelas, Portalegre and Portimão, with a scheduled start at 10:00.
