Portugal wins for the first time in the qualification for the World Cup

The Portuguese futsal team debuted today to win in the Elite Round of qualification for the World Cup, imposing itself on Belarus 2-1 in the opening round of Group A.

The portufuese team, looking for the sixth consecutive presence in the Futsal World Championship, was losing after Pavel Rogovik had advanced Belarus in the 20th minute, but managed the turnaround, with goals from Cardinal (28) and Tiago Brito (33).

Portugal leads Group A, with three points, while Finland, the team that the Portuguese play on Friday, and Italy add one point, after today drawing 2-2 in the first meeting of the group.

The winners of the four European series have direct entry to the competition, scheduled for the Lithuanian cities of Kaunas, Vilnius and Klaipeda, between September 12 and October 4, while the runners-up will discuss the remaining places in a ‘play-off’.
