Portuguese airports register about 43 million passengers

The 10 Portuguese airports in the first nine months of the year registered a total of around 43 million passengers, 7% more than in the same period, airport manager Vinci announced today.

Data released by the French company Vinci, which owns ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, show that “in the first nine months of the year, 42.9 million passengers used Portuguese facilities”, which represents a 7% increase in traffic.

To justify this increase is, of course, the increase of 10.3% at Lisbon airport until September, compared to the same period in 2017, for a total of 22.2 million passengers.

This was followed by increases in traffic at Oporto airports (+ 10.6% to 9.1 million passengers) and the Azores (+ 2.6% to 1.9 million passengers).

Conversely, there were fewer passengers in Faro (-2.3% to 7.1 million) and Madeira airports (-1.9% to 2.6 million).

Noting that “Portugal has surpassed the mark of 42 million passengers in this period,” Vinci points out that, “with the country’s popularity as a summer destination for European tourists – mainly Spaniards, French and Germans – a very good season “.

Likewise, TAP “performed well,” he adds.

Regarding the third quarter of this year, between July and September, “the 10 Portuguese airports recorded the best summer season ever, with 17.3 million passengers moved,” he said. 4.2% over the same period last year.

In all of the 44 airports managed by Vinci worldwide, 142.8 million passengers were registered between January and September of this year, 6.7% more than in the same period of 2017.

Already between July and September, the increase was more contained, of 2.8%, for a total of 51.3 million of passengers moved.

“Excluding the performance of Japan, which was negatively affected by a succession of exceptional weather events, the growth rate was 6.1%” in the third quarter, Vinci said in the press release.
