According to the program announced by the two festivals, “Vitalina Varela”, Pedro Costa’s film, which has already been shown in more than 50 international shows, will be part of the official competition of the 47th Gent Film Festival, which starts on the 13th.
Vitalina Varela, the woman who gives the film its name, was distinguished in 2019 at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where the feature film had a world premiere and earned Pedro Costa the Golden Leopard.
The Gent Film Festival will also feature “Noite Perpétua“, by Pedro Peralta, in the competition for short films.
At the Belgian festival there will also be, out of competition, the film “Desterro“, fiction by Brazilian director Maria Clara Escobar, co-produced by Terratreme and which gives voice to several women who tell their story about loss, death and the struggle to be , as we read in the synopsis.
The Valladolid Film Festival, on the other hand, will hold its 65th edition starting on October 24 and in the official selection is “Gaza mon amour“, a Palestinian film by the brothers Tarzan Nasser and Arab Nasser, co-produced by Ukbar Filmes and shot partially in the Algarve.
At the Spanish festival, in the official selection of short films there is “Altotting“, an animated film by the German director Anddreas Hykade, co-produced by Abi Feijó and with the participation of Regina Pessoa in graphic design.
