Portuguese exports to China increase by 4.88% by February
In the first two months of the year, Portugal exported products worth US $ 358.6 million (317.3 million euros), an increase of 4.88% over the same period of 2018.
According to official figures published on the Macau Forum portal, trade between Lisbon and Beijing amounted to the US $ 1 billion (€ 885 million) last year, according to an increase of about $ 72 million compared to the first two months of 2018.
Portugal imported goods worth approximately 641.2 million dollars from China, with Lisbon having a negative trade balance with the Asian country of about 282.6 million dollars.
Imports of Chinese products increased by 7.74% over the same period last year.
The same data showed that trade between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries stood at the US $ 23.58 billion over the first three months of the year, with the growth of 15.61%.
Imports by China account for the largest share of this figure: the US $ 17.5 billion, an increase of 26.32% over the same period under review in 2018.
In turn, Chinese exports to Portuguese-speaking countries decreased by 7.09% to the US $ 6.079 billion.
Brazil remains China’s main partner under the Lusophone bloc, with the trade of US $ 17.35 billion.
By the end of February, Beijing bought products worth the US $ 12.518 billion, up 36.54% from January and February 2018, and Brazil bought China goods worth 4.83 million, a decrease of 31.23%.
Angola is in second place in the Lusophone ranking with trade with China worth 4.75 billion dollars, with Luanda sending Beijing products worth 4.48 billion dollars and making 266 purchases million dollars.
Trade between China and Mozambique was $ 442 million in the first two months of the year.
China established the Macao Special Administrative Region as a platform for economic and trade cooperation with the Portuguese-speaking countries in 2003, the year in which it created the Macau Forum.
In 2018, Portugal exported to China products worth US $ 2.24 billion plus 5.59% over the same period of 2017 and trade between Lisbon and Beijing totalled the US $ 6,016 million last year. corresponds to an increase of about 408 million dollars compared to 2017.
Last year, trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries stood at the US $ 147.35 billion over the first three months of the year, with the growth of 25.31%.
